More of Our History
In May of 1950, thirty-eight (38) community members formed the Alpine Youth Center, a non-profit corporation for the purpose of constructing and maintaining a youth center to be operated primarily for the benefit of the youth living in, about, and around the town of Alpine. Over the years the name changed to the Alpine Community Center Inc. But its main purpose has remained the same, serving the youth of Alpine.
In November 1950, the Alpine Youth Center was deeded 7.5 acres on Alpine Blvd., its current location. The years that followed saw the construction of a youth center, which was build from fragmented donated buildings put together by volunteers. Those original buildings are now occupied by the Julian Charter School building. ACC also saw volunteers construct the lighted ball field, tennis court and a community park. In 1999, the new community center building was constructed with a loan from the USDA and this building has been the site of many community events including weddings, memorials, meetings, senior events and youth events. ACC has also been there to support the community during times of disaster, as was the case during the 2003 Cedar Fire when ACC became the center point in supporting those affected by the fire and providing hot meals to first responders.
Over the years the ACC has provided many services to the community of Alpine:
• A community park for picnics, concerts & special events for non-profits. It also includes a kid’s playground area.
• Alpine’s only lighted ball field used by youth and adults.
• Alpine’s only lighted tennis court where many youth have learned to play tennis.
* The Alpine Urgent Care & Comprehensive Medicine Office is located on our site.
• The Alpine Goodwill is located on our site.
• The Alpine Veterans Wall of Honor is part of the community center.
• Currently offering senior programs on site.In 2008, the ACC sold three-quarters of an acre of ACC property to the new county library. This sale saved us from having to close our doors.
